Mystery of Tarot

Mystery of Tarot

In Tarot, every card has different meanings. Why do these cards have different meanings? The answer might be blurry.  Where is its origin? Celtic Mythology, Hebrew Mysticism, Renaissance Theatrical Production, stars and planets of the astrology.

Professor Micheal Dummett (Department of Logic, Oxford University) said "Tarot cardsoriginated Northen Italy early 15th Century. The first actual documentation of the card, 1442, the account books through Court of Ferrara. Probably, it appeared two decades ago, 1420." In those times Tarot Cards were simple card games. An unknown artist painted the oldest Tarot cardsfor the Italian Visconti Family around 1450. (Tarot Cards Use and History, documentary movie).  Beside of those records, origin of Tarot cards total mystery, we don't know they might have come from East to West through trade or Crusaders. Antoine Court de Gebelien's (1719-1784) theory, Tarot cards origin may have been Ancient Egypt (Tarot Mysteries by Dee, Jonathan, January 2003). The church at 15th Century later banned Tarot Cardscausing them to go underground until the 18th Century.

There are 78 cards in a standard Tarot. Tarotis not only one deck but two decks. Major Arcana has 22 cards, and Minor Arcana has 56 cards. Arcana is a Latin word means "secret".  You could describe a single card as "Arcanum". Minor Arcana divided into four suits, Wands, Coins, Cups and Swords. These have evolved to a modern pack of playing cards; Wands were becoming Clubs, Coins becoming Diamonds, Cups becoming Hearts, Sword becoming Spades (Tarot Mysteries by Dee, Jonathan, January 2003).

There are lots of symbolism in the cards. Where did these symbols in cards come from? How did these cards turn the just game to broad Fortune telling? How do these reflect our self-conscious to the cards? How do they explain our past, current situation and future at the same time? It appears Tarot cardswould be a wonderful way to see things if they commented by a knowledgeable person.
