St. Patric's Day in Chicago River

St Patric's Day Chicago River

There is an event happens every year on March, 17 in Chicago River. It has been dyed to green for the celebrations for St. Patricks Day since 1961. It has been called Annual green-tinting event. It's a very exciting scene happens for people. We know green is holiday colour for St. Patrick's Day. But colouring a river is a crazy thing to me.

The Chicago Journeymen Plumbers Union pours in the dye to turn the river green. Don't worry, the dye that they use is a leak detection dye that they use in plumbing pipes. It's totally safe. There is no harm to the environment.  One boat drops the dye into the water, and it's an orange powdery substance. Once the orange powder hits the water, it turns a vibrant green and the second boat follows and stirs it up to make sure that that dye spreads out.  There were a couple of guys doing it a lot one day.

The river dyeing was followed by the Chicago St. Patrick's Day Parade, which stepped off at noon and included more than 100 different local organisations.  Happy St. Patric's Day!
